REALITY ROUNDUP
WEEK OF 1.17.05

Thoughts on the last week of reality television. Shows include "The Biggest Loser", "The Apprentice", "My Big, Fat, Obnoxious Boss", "Real World", "Survivor", and "American Idol".

-Right after I pointed out last week that "My Big, Fat, Obnoxious Boss" was coming back sometime in February, Fox decides to pull the plug...sort of. They announced last week that the remaining episodes will be shown on the Fox website and you can download them. Yippee. I'll get right on that. Uhhhh, no thanks. I'm not THAT desperate to see how it ends up. Who's brilliant idea was this? You mean "FX" couldn't cut into their bad programming on any given night and give us one hour of this a week? Except for "Nip/Tuck". Although I've never seen it, I've heard it's good. Lotta stories about breast implants, sex in doctor's offices, and basically that it's soft porn. Great idea. No wonder people are watching.

-I saw the "Biggest Loser" finale. I had watched the show sporadically through the season, so I was intrigued to see these contestants drop a whole person in 3 months. Pretty amazing when you think of it. We're talking a minimum of 70lbs were dropped by all the finalists, including the winner who dropped 122 lbs. I could be wrong, but wasn't that guy the jerk in the beginning of the show that turned on one of his teammates or something? Hell if I know. All I know now is he's Jared from Subway. Great concept for a show: Take a bunch of large people, get them into shape, tempt them with Ho-Ho's and Ding Dongs, and make every other overweight person around the world feel like absolute s**t in the process for not having the will power to lose weight.

-I think the most ironic thing about the "Biggest Loser" is that the host itself, Catherine Rhea, deserves to be a contestant more than the people on the show. Geez. Since she took over Rosie's show, it seems like she's trying to match her pound for pound as well. Not good.

-How come "Apprentice 3" starts this Thursday and I am not really at all excited? Is it because Season 2 just ended? Or is it because I'm already tired of the concept? I think it's a mixture of both. Trump might be getting a tad ahead of himself. I mean, I saw the cast for "Survivor 10" was announced Thursday, and I couldn't wait. But when I saw the commercials for the "Apprentice" during the Golden Globes, I did not have that same excitement. Don't get me wrong, I'll still watch it. But I can guarantee you this season won't be nearly as good as the first two.

-"Street Smarts" vs. "Book Smarts". Whoopee. Let's be honest. I don't care how successful these "Street Smart" people have been? What has been the ultimate reason during the first two seasons why these people have gotten eliminated (i.e. Troy - Season 1, and Sandy - Season 2)? It's because they didn't have a educational background. So what makes me think Trump will hire one of these dopes this time? It doesn't. So we can basically eliminate 8 people already from winning. Simple as that.

-I saw the headshots and profiles of the new “Survivor” cast on Thursday. Another interesting clan to say the least. One that immediately popped out was the “dancer” from Las Vegas. Immediately I’m guessing a lot guys were like, “Sweet. They finally smartened up and put a stripper on this show.” Not quite. She’s an actual real dancer that performs in those “other” shows. Damn.

-So, since Jeff Probst is now banging Julie from last season, does that mean that she went on that trip with him to film it? Apparently that’s not in Jeff’s contract where he can fraternize and play “touch my monkey” with the contestants. So we’re supposed to believe nothing went on with him and Julie during “Vanuatu” and it all happened after they got back? Hmmmm….

-Can’t wait for “American Idol” to start tonight. More bad singers, more bad William Hung wannabe’s, and more of Simon ripping people to shreds. Although, hearing Randy Jackson say, “you had pitch problems dawg”, or “I didn’t feel you” will get old. And Paula never criticizing anyone ever I could do without too. If she can’t be honest, why is she a judge.
