REALITY ROUNDUP WEEK OF 5.9.05 Thoughts on the last week of reality television. Shows include “Survivor”, the “Apprentice”, “American Idol”, and Paula Abdul’s idiocy. -As much as I was happy to see Tom stay in the game longer, and as well as Caryn acted to pretend like she was getting booted, I really would like to see her go next. Obviously, Jen is the odd person out now that Greg is gone, but can we at least keep her around another couple weeks just to be able to look at her dumper for another three days? Is that too much to ask? It seemed like when Greg got booted, he was looking more forward to meeting up with Jen in the future than anything else. And I’m glad she was smart enough to figure out what was going on around her. Very perceptive. -We can now add a second person to the list of “People Who Actually Put on More Weight While On the Island”. Richard Hatch was the only other person to ever look like he never lost a pound during his stay on the island. In fact, it seemed like he got fatter. Well, we can now add Katie to that list. She definitely looks like she’s been being fed pizza and sandwiches off camera. How’d that happen? And if anything, you’d think a woman would lose weight immediately when not eating and sitting around all day. -I’m surprised they only brought three family members back for the last episode. Unless Ian, Tom, and Caryn’s family is appearing this week, seems to me this’ll be the first season ever where all the remaining six or seven “Survivors” didn’t get to see their family at some point. I just have one question about Jen, Greg, and Katie getting to see their family: Was that really Jen’s sister? That’s a half-sister, right? They weren’t blood related were they? If so, how’d that happen? Just asking. -It’s shaping up good for Tom now. He’s definitely in the final four, and Ian is the only guy who could possibly steal an Immunity Challenge from him, but Ian wouldn’t dare turn against his daddy Tom. Not a chance. But something tells me we’re not headed for an Ian/Tom final two. Seems too easy and it would be the most logical thing to do. And anything that involves logic and what should happen never does on this show. -I find both Tana and Kendra equally annoying. Kendra because she’s such a complete drama queen, and Tana because, well, I can pinpoint why I find her annoying, I just do. Neither of these girls deserves to be the next “Apprentice”, but I guess the show is forced to pick one of them. Kendra looks like she should be waiting tables at the local pool hall, and Tana from a little midwest town I think isn’t fit for the lifestyle in New York. What if they don’t have her bedazzlers in New York? Is she going to flip out and drive half way across the state to go retrieve them? -Nothing like sticking Tana and Kendra with the six most difficult people to work with from this season. That’s a hell of a challenge in itself. Who cares what they do on the task? If someone doesn’t get fired between those six, I’d be shocked. I can’t imagine a more incompetent group of knuckleheads they could’ve picked. Michael? Danny? Brian? Are you kidding me? Hell, at least they brought back Erin so we could have some eye candy. By the way, congratulations to Erin for dumping her attorney job in Philadelphia, and moving to Jacksonville to become a television reporter. The sky’s the limit. As Casey Kasam says, “Keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars.” -I really think they’re going to need to implement some changes before season four begins. They need to freshen up this show a little bit. It’s the same thing every season. This week in the finale, you just know what’s going to happen. Both Kendra and Tana will make glaring mistakes in the beginning, the people they’re working with express concern over how the project will turn out, but in 24 hours time, everything will get settled, both girls will pull off a mediocre event, and the team members on each team will applaud Kendra and Tana for their respective efforts. Happens every season. -And why does it seem like the last task always has to be done in a span of one day? That’s got to be the editing. There’s no way both of those events can come off so quickly with that little time to prepare, can it? Everyone’s running around with their head chopped off one episode saying they’re not gonna make it, then the next day, everything’s set up correctly, the vendors are happy, and Tana and Kendra save the day. Just doesn’t seem right. -Who nicknamed Scott Savol, “Scottie the Body”? That’s a horrible nickname. Especially for him. Thank God we don’t have to hear that anymore. That guy sealed his fate last Tuesday when he rubbed America’s noses in the fact that he was still around. If he could’ve acted just like everyone else and said, “I’m just so happy for this opportunity. This has been the greatest experience of my life, blah blah blah”, he’d probably still be around. But when he says stupid sh** like, “I’m gonna be thinkin’ bout’ what I’m gonna sing next week”, that turned people off. Guaranteed. What an annoyance he was. Good riddance. -If you would’ve told me when the final twelve was announced that Anthony would last more than two weeks, I would’ve thought you were nuts. Anthony lasts longer than Constantine? Please. I think one thing that really hurt Constantine was that the week before he was eliminated, his band had already signed a record deal. There’s no way that could’ve helped him because why should he need to win now? That’s why I don’t think Bo will win because he’s talked enough about the touring he’s done, and all the performances he’s given. People know he can go back to doing what he was doing. I think my final two will be Vonzell and Carrie. Both those girls basically come from nothing, they got discovered through the show, and that’s who people want to vote for. But Carrie will still win this thing. I don’t think it’s even close. -As for the lovely Ms. Abdul, well, things aren’t going well for her right now. I think it’s pretty much immaterial right now whether or not she slept with Corey Clarke. The fact of the matter is there is overwhelming evidence that she had more than allowable contact with a contestant on the show that she’s a judge on. How does she not get fired for this? Going on “SNL” didn’t help matters either, and I’m actually questioning why she even did it at all? What was the point of that? Anyway, like I’ve said, she’s the most expendable person on that show anyway, why not just get rid of her? People don’t tune in to see her anyway since we already know what she’s going to say. -Whether or not you think her voice influences peoples votes or not is not the point. She’s just not allowed to do what she did for someone in her position. Regardless of if the sex happened, we have voice messages and numerous phone calls she made to a contestant on the show while it was in progress. How can that be construed any other way other than she broke some sort of judge/contestant rules? The guy knows the names of her three dogs, could point out where she lived, knew she had a ceiling above her bed, knew her favorite couches to do it on, etc. What more do you want? -Is Corey Clarke doing this for publicity? Of course he is. But that doesn’t mean Paula’s innocent. She’s not. Of course he waited for a better time to bring this out, but it’s not like he’s making this whole thing up. This guy couldn’t spell pig if you spotted him the “p” and the “g”, yet he’s able to concoct some elaborate plan to bring down Paula Abdul? What does he have to gain by lying? If he makes the whole thing up, he’d get crucified and people would stay away from his album and books in droves. Maybe he exaggerated some details but you can’t tell me this guy didn’t have inappropriate contact with her, can you? If what Paula says is right, and he’s completely making all this up, why would she leave a message telling him to stay away from the press and “don’t tell them anything”? What would she have to hide if none of this is true? This is show is too popular and too much of a ratings cash cow to keep her around. They don’t want scandal anywhere near this show, so they’ll either force her to quit, or she’ll quit on her own. -And why did Paula choose one of the more uglier contestants to boink? She couldn’t have latched on to someone better than that? Geez. Be a little more selective, why don’t you? How stupid does Paula look in all this? A 38 year old woman slobbering all over some 22 year old kid trying to help his career? Even if she thought what she was doing was helping, I can’t imagine the thought never crossed her mind that, “You know, maybe I shouldn’t be sending a driver over to pick this kid up anymore. Someone might get suspicious.” She deserves whatever she has coming to her for being this naïve. What an idiot. Return to the realitysteve.com home page |
